You may have heard the old cliche, “Location is everything.”  But tired as it sounds, it’s still a fact, even in the 21st century. 2. Get High PR Backlinks

If you’re offered a choice of the types of websites that provide you with backlinks, try to find those with high pagerank. There are usually eight levels of pagerank, shown as PR1, PR2, PR3 and so on. The higher a site ranks, the more likely it’s been around a while, even if multiple owners have had it. These anchor sites are highly valued in search engine algorithms. Why is that?

Because high PR sites are often as old as some of the original search engine algorithms, they stand out to these same search engines. The links that originate from these sites are given a lot more weight than links from newer ones.

3. Use Keywords in your Title

The main keywords you choose for pages and posts should be included in the page or post title. This is something among SEO techniques that is often overlooked in our desire to create a powerful title that convinces people to come to your site. But this tells the search engines what it’s all about, and then they look in the body of the text for those same keywords.

If you use what might be a very catchy title in your mind but without your keywords, your SEO will definitely not be at its best. In fact, the search engines could penalize you if your not careful to keep everything relevant, including titles and tags.

4. Use h1 and h2 tags

A trick that is often overlooked among SEO techniques is what’s known as the h1 tag. It actually stands for heading number one.  What it does is tells the search engines when they crawl your site what its main title is. The words you put in your h1 title tags should also be included a number of times within the page context, itself, especially in the h2 tag. When the search engines see this pairing they recognize relevancy to the keywords provided.  This helps gain trust that your content will be relevant for anyone searching with those keywords.

Notice that the h1 take is automatically included in most WordPress themes. That means that the title you choose for your page or post will be the h1 tag in the live page. It’s important to include something very similar with the keywords included in your h2 tag.

5. Keep finding other sites to link to you

Some still come to the erroneous conclusion that search engine optimization ends once you reach number one.  They think you can then forget about it. The problem is that if you do that, you won’t stay in number one spot for long. Links lose freshness and relevancy over time.  Both of these are factors search engines use to rate link quality.

An important factor in the discussion of SEO techniques is recognizing that SEO never ends! That means you need to get into the habit of finding other websites to link to you. Google still gives a lot of weight to sites based on their popularity with other websites.  In turn, they rank this popularity by the number of links. This is the way Google was able to keep coming up with accurate results even as the internet simply exploded with new sites.

6. Use Multiple Pages for long topics

If you write a post on a very large or broad topic, your article will almost certainly cover  a number of sub-topics. It’s good practice to break these up into individual pages. Multiple smaller pages are easier for readers to digest. This also gives you an opportunity to optimize for each page’s keyword or keyphrase. SEO techniques are sometimes as simple as just organizing everything for your visitors so they aren’t overwhelmed with information!

7. Use Meta Tags

More than a decade ago, Meta Tags were by far the most critical factor for ranking your site with

the search engines. Even though that’s ancient history in Internet time, they still do matter. That means it’s important that every page of your website has them. The text you put in the meta description is still what search engines show in the search results. Surfers often make a decision on whether or not to actually visit your page based on these.

These are 7 SEO techniques that you can use to help you with your search engine optimization. Put these into your overall strategy to gain the top spot on the search engines for your niche and stay there!
